Hellebores
I started collecting hellebore
species and hybrids 16 years ago, having been entranced by huge clumps seen in a
local nursery garden. We have been hybridising ever since and have developed some
new cultivars which have proved popular. In February 2001 the Gardeners World
team visited with Rachel de Thame and showed our hellebores on the programme.
This really put us on the map as a serious hellebore breeder. Since then we have
continued to develop our Bradfield hybrids. Over the years there has been
extensive press coverage of our hellebores, including the Bradfield Stars.
The best way to buy hellebores
is from the nursery when they are
in flower in February, March and April. This way the true colour of the flowers can
be discerned. These plants are usually sold in 3L big pots at 3-4 years
old.
We
have a mail order offer of six Bradfield Hybrids
(one litre plants).
Many
people have been requesting hellebores of a specific colour by mail order. This
means sending larger plants that have flowered (three litre plants). We are now able to do this
although the postage costs are higher than for the smaller hellebores or for
other perennials. We have a mail order minimumm order of 6 plants, whatever
there size. Post and packing charges are £10.00 for parcels up to 10kg in
weight and £18.00 for parcels weighing between 10 and 20kg. Generally we are
able to pack up to 20 perennials (including one litre hellebores) within the
10kg weight or 6 three litre hellebores.
We strongly advise customers to reserve their
favourite colours and forms as some of these popular plants can be in short
supply - this includes doubles, anenome centred plants, Bradfield stars and some
species. Preordering
