Special Events, Talks, Practical Sessions and Shows

We have developed a programme of special events, talks and practical sessions at the nursery throughout the year which are proving popular with our customers

  • In February we focus on Helleborus in the Winter Garden

  • April is when we hold our  Special Woodland and Shade Loving Plants Days

  • In May we are holding our a Complete Chicken Day

  • In September there are two Special Autumn Open Days

Special Events

Roger Harvey will be on hand to offer practical gardening advice

(on the Chicken Day we have a number of poultry experts to offer advice)

       Stunning collection of hellebores all under cover including a wide range of colours, species, doubles, Bradfield Stars, anemone centred plants and Helleborus Winter Sunshine and Winter Moonbeam

  •        Over 1000 hellebores for sale each day in a large twinspan tunnel plus a wide range of snowdrops and other perennials

  •         10% discount on hellebores purchased on these days (excludes any other special offers)

  •        Advice on cultivation and planting associations from Roger Harvey

  •        How to grow hellebores in containers; practical demonstrations. Also - bring your own pot and we will plant it for you

  •        An undercover Winter Garden Display incorporating Cornus, Salix, Corydalis, Cyclamen, Galanthus,   Pulmonarias and much more

  •        Guided tours of the Hellebore stock tunnel (donation to The Alzheimer's Society requested) - 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm

  •      Advance ordering system offered, to help avoid disappointment

    Send your order to us with a cheque for the appropriate amount and we will contact you when these plants are available for your collection during February/March 2008

 Most gardens have an area of shade. Specialist advice from our Chelsea Gold Medal winning team on what to grow in these tricky areas.

  • Under cover shady border display as seen at The RHS London Show earlier in the week
  • A wide range of rare and unusual shade and woodland plants will be available for purchase including Epimediums, Polygonatums and Woodland Anemones
  • Short Talks throughout the day on what to grow in shady and woodland areas

Complete Chicken Day 2010

 A day suitable for everyone.  Roger & Teresa Harvey have enjoyed keeping chickens for over 20 years and have an interesting flock which live in the orchard.  Chickens make entertaining and undemanding pets and fresh eggs for the kitchen are a real treat.  Come along, be inspired and find out more about keeping chickens.  

  • Experts from Colchester Poultry Club will be on hand with advice and information
  • Talks throughout the day
  • Prize birds will be on show
  • Stalls and poultry related equipment for sale
  • Poultry and fertile eggs for sale on the day
  • Children very welcome

 

Special Autumn Open Days 2010

Does your garden lack colour and interest later in the year?

Colour in the garden in late summer and early autumn can be difficult to achieve

On these Special Days a vibrant display will demonstrate how to liven up your garden

  •  'Autumn Ablaze' - Talks by Roger Harvey during the day which will incorporate a guided tour of the 'Hot Border'
